Chiral metabolite analysis

One research line concentrates on the determination of metabolite chirality, which may strongly affect biological activity. Specific analytical tools for the enantioselective analysis of amino acids and peptides in biological samples were developed. To this end, CE employing soluble chiral selectors is coupled to MS and fluorescence spectroscopy to achieve selective and highly sensitive detection of L- and D-enantiomers. Another strategy employs chiral derivatization agents and volatile surfactants to achieve efficient chiral CE separation as well as interference-free MS detection.
