Shanliang Sun MSc., from China, obtained his Bachelor’s degree Information Management and Information System in 2010 and his Master’s degree Medicinal Chemistry in 2013 at China Pharmaceutical University. During his Master’s, he worked on the design and synthesis of Polo-like kinase 1 inhibitors in the supervision of Prof. Tao Lu.
In September 2014, Sun started his PhD research in Medicinal Chemistry research group at VU University Amsterdam on the project entitled Structure-based Design and Synthesis of Chemokine Receptor Ligands, supported by China Scholarship Council (CSC) grant. In the PhD project computational techniques are combined with Medicinal Chemistry approaches to develop new small molecules for the chemokine receptors CXCR4 and CXCR7. Supervisors of his PhD research are Prof. Rob Leurs, Prof. Iwan de Esch and Dr Chris de Graaf.
