Laura Smits-de Vries MSc. graduated in 2010 as an Animal Scientist at Wageningen University with specializations immunology and virology. Afterwards, she worked at Wageningen University (2011) and Utrecht University (2012-2014), where she learned to use molecular techniques such as different types of PCR and cloning. In addition, Smits-de Vries gained experience with cell culture, FACS analysis, expression of proteins, and analysis with Coomassie Blue Staining and Western Blotting. She is Article 9 and 5B certified.
The overall aim of her work at the VU is to elucidate the molecular mechanisms through which viral GPCRs reprogram cellular signaling and accelerate tumor progression, and explore their potential as therapeutic targets in glioblastoma, the most aggressive brain cancer in adults and children.
