The presentation of Hauwert on “A bidirectional photo-antagonist toolbox for histamine H3 receptor photopharmacology” was one of the 10 award winning posters selected out of 431 posters presented.

Hauwert is working in synthetic medicinal chemistry with Dr. Maikel Wijtmans and Prof. Rob Leurs in the Medicinal Chemistry research group, part of the Amsterdam Institute for Molecules, Medicines and Systems. Together with molecular pharmacologists, computational medicinal chemists, and biochemists , he participates in the multidisciplinary NWO Chemical Sciences TOP-PUNT project "7 ways to 7TMR modulation" (PIs Prof. Martine Smit and Prof. Rob Leurs).

Photoswitchable ligands
The goal of Hauwert’s research is to develop photoswitchable ligands which enable the spatial and temporal control of histamine H3 receptors using light as an external stimulus. These tool compounds can be of aid in the elucidation of the complex signaling cascade of the histamine H3 receptor. The research presented on the poster was based on the research disclosed recently in the Journal of American Chemical Society.
