The Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO) has awarded a Rubicon grant to Stefan Vuckovic, former AIMMS PhD student at the Theoretical Chemistry Department.

The Rubicon grant allows Dr Vuckovic to go abroad for a postdoctoral fellowship to the University of California Irvine (UCI), where he will be working with Prof. Kieron Burke, one of the leading figures of Density Functional Theory.

Density Functional Theory

Density Functional Theory is the fundamental building block of the successes of theoretical and computational chemistry in designing, understanding and guiding experiments. In the group of Prof. Gori-Giorgi at the VU, Vuckovic has already made key steps in understanding and solving the problems that hamper the applicability of state-of-the-art DFT in chemistry.

The stay at UCI with Prof. Burke will allow Vuckovic to further expand his knowledge of quantum chemistry and to address new challenges encountered in the field that are highly relevant for disciplines that stretch from biochemistry to material science.
